It's been a long time ...XD .

JKR's

Of course, his best friend is the textbook. The one with the spell for enemies in it.

The one to use with precaution.

This one somehow reminds me of one of the few fanfics I ever wrote, "17 to Death"... It involved the Marauders Era and time travel and similar madness, and although Snape was not a central character in it, I wanted to emphasize not only on his tragic character, but on the loads of inner darkness he's got stored up inside him. Most of his fans tend to seriously overlook that part of his personality. Yes, Snape was indeed a sad, tormented child, bullied and ridiculed by his classmates, but he was also dangerous from a very early age. And I believe that s one of the coolest things about his character. His greatest torments caused him to develop his most frightful talents. Briliant work and concept! I love the touch of blood in the background....

To me Snape like an angel or a poor victim doesn't make sense. He is a deliberate nuisance most of times.

It would be too simple and comfortable, if we had only good or bad inside us. And Snape is SO THE figure of a teenager, with all his wrong hope and great ambitions, and strong anger within. Anger and passion- he expresses a great lot of well-known emotions :)

Thank you for your comment.

Yes, exactly, and I think this is the best part. If he wasn't such a complex, conflicted, and angry character, he would not be so appealing, after all. He is inarguably JK Rowling's best creation. And I hate the fact that, due to the movies coming out, many people forget the drive Snape has throughout all 7 books. That passion you speak of he has about everything, even about hating someone. And I love how the teenager in him shows throughout all of the layers of his adult personality. That's why he's an inehxaustible source of inspiration. Snape can be discussed and analysed for years and years and there would still be much more about his character that's not yet been explored.

Exactly! It's a bit annoying that after the seventh book was released, a lot of people sees him as a tragic hero who was so brave and sacrified his life because of love etc. I like his character and I won't say that he wasn't a tragic hero but he also was a Death Eater and he might have done horrible things (which I am more interested in :D). So many people seems to forget about this.

I couldn't agree more - although my fondness for Snape only grew after book 7 because it confirmed my everlasting certainty that he was a double agent. But I don't think it's right to see him as a tragic hero; hero, yes, maybe, but with a great shade of villain, and definitely not tragic, because despite everything he went through he never became a victim in life. So I think that's admirable about Snape - even though he was practically martyr/hero material, he didn't want to be seen as one - and that's the villain in him talking, because to a villain weakness is a worse quality than lack of virtue. Snape was a strong character, no matter what people say, he gritted his teeth through it all, and it was the darkness in his life and personality that made him stronger, not his love. His love just made sure some good left in him. But what makes Snape so hardcore isn't his fixation on Lily; it's, well, Snape ;)

I never had this certainty that he was a double agent because I've seen the movies first and only in the summer of 2013 I've read the books. I like his character though he's not my favourite.

Well, English is not my native language, so it can happen that I sometimes say something wrong. :D I didn't mean he was a victim by saying he was a tragic hero. I meant that he didn't get a happy ending but death from JK Rowling.

I only like the Snape-Lily pairing because it's very strange. I don't think Snape was the perfect "boyfriend" for Lily. Though he loved Lily, at the same time he wanted to join the Death Eaters, who wanted to imprison and kill mudbloods. So it's just weird. :XD:

Yep, Snape was a very strong character and I love that he was so mean, brave, cunning, smart and fascinated by the Dark Arts. Yay, and he was a very powerful wizard.

I can see how the films can get you confused. Not many people saw this coming, though. I guess mine was just a lucky guess.

Oh, don't worry, I'm not a native English speaker either :) I know you didn't mean to say he was a victim - some fans, however, do. There was practically no happy ending option for Snape, but JKR kind of managed to martyrize him by killing him. I would have preferred it if he had survived. Imagine the awkwardness ;)

Indeed, the Snape-Lily pairing appeal lies in its strangeness. I'd imagine it's the cause of some interesting fanfiction, although, clearly, it couldn't last. Snape was very attached to the dark stuff, something he couldn't even forsake for Lily. And I enjoy that, because I have a similar fixation on the dark as well :P Lily, well, Lily was looking for the hero type, and James was there to meet her requirements.

Yeah, Snape is totally badass. There's hardly anything he can't do, really. Apart from ask the girl he likes out, that is.

He scares me a lot in this one! Those splashes of red enhance the dark mood and his eyes really look soulless, and at the same time, twisted by hatred and rage. If looks could kill... In fact, it is difficult for me to look at this piece for more than a few seconds at a time. Which is no bad thing.

so intense look in his eyes .
this drawing portray so much things what he have. twisted desire, inferiority complex disguise as pride, anger, rage, fury, high proud but low self- esteem, a life full of hardships, cruel family background......

in first, i was embarrassed in this drawing's raw and rough feelings
and in second, it changed to admiration and came to me perfectly

this pict implying so much things and it's the reason why i awe this
also all severus pict which you drawed

Really ? I'm not happy about it at all, honestly. I think he doesn't have the right face. That happens very often with me - I submit finally the pic because by itself it can stand, but I'm very frustrated because once more time I think that it's not enough snapelike.

But I keep trying of course... Some day I'll be satisfied.... :p

I love Snape. And youve pictured him lovely here - just as grumpy and pale and unhappy as he always were.
And the background is great, and the small details like the "for enemies" in the corner.

I love the shadows and lines under his eyes, and the red-splashed background! Poor Severus - what a desperate state of mind he must be in in this picture! I really wish I could write him as angry as this! Very gorgeous work, as always. I'm sorry I'm so behind with comments, I haven't had much time for DeviantArt these past couple of weeks. It's great to get back in to the world of Severus Snape and J.K. Rowling!

I'm not glad with the face - I imagine Sev in a different way and cannot just paint it. But I liked the mood of the pic...;) For the emotions, I think it comes to me because I am all the way thinking about how the character feels and then I begin to look for the proper nuances in the faces, in only little changes in the eyes, the lips, the eyebrows... But it takes a long time before I stop. That's what is nice with digital art - I can do, undo, redo etc. :)

No problem for the challenge. I am procrastinating as well.... ;)

Wow... so dark and angry. But of course books will never let you down... I've seen an icon of his Potions book which says "the book that feels like a friend", which of course was referring to how Harry felt he was talking to this "Prince" character and rather liked him, but even so...

Yes, that's another thing I loved in HBP. Harry is really loving the book, he even loves the Half-Blood Prince. He feels for him, understands him (remember how he says that he feels the prince is a boy and not a girl etc). And the book betrays him and so he does. I bet the relationship between Severus and his book was very special too. All massacring the pages, because of the idiocies of Libatius Borage, and at the same time having the book as a keeper of his new invented spells. Now, Lily is no more his friend and then he keeps his Potions book for himself, never showing it. And the spells become darker and darker... :)
