HBP scene by Vizen HBP scene by Vizen
It would be a scene from the end of HBP (BOOK version). He doesn't like what Potter has just said.

Goodness. I got goosebumps when I saw this. Literally, you should see my arms! I don't know why, exactly, but this is very powerful.

accurate! srsly, the features and pose. It's impossible to mistake him for someone else! And I love the sinister mood here. Great work, once again! :salute:

Perhaps I am unable to submit an objective opinion, but I do find your Snape so beautiful, and yet his features are true to the description in the books. So either we are totally biased, or Harry is ;-)
Anyway, I am completely smitten with your style and your work. Thanks for sharing.

I believe I am totally biased, for my part. I repeatedly think that Snape should be uglier, and I cannot draw him entirely ugly. The good thing is that the man doesn't need to be conventionally handsome with usual features to look attractive to some people. That's one of the reasons I love these book Snape's characteristics and am sad when I see depictions of Snape without his specific features, as if he needed to be 'corrected' to be loved.

Thank you for your compliment.

Oh my, another treat by you. :happybounce:  The red glint in his eye is kind of creepy. Glad you drew this one, the end-of-HBP scenes are so powerful. Meaning the book. I don't really remember the movie ending much. Shrug

I didn't like the end-of-HBP scenes in the movie. The ones in the book are so powerful, so fascinating, it is hard to do them justice. And I still think that the approach of the character on the screen is too different from what I read of the book character. In the movie Snape is long-suffering, kind of always in control and all dignified. In the books he stills copes with his anger, he still suffers from the unfairness of his fate when Rickman Snape is already a soldier on duty with clear and apeased thoughts.

True words. There's too little raw emotions, nastiness and tantrums in movie Snape. I recall being disappointed with not only the HBP movie flight, but also the worst memory scene and PoA's Shrieking Shack. Here's to the book version, which is in my opinion much more interesting. Popcorn (I couldn't find a toasting smiley so this will have to do)

Really? Sounds good, thank you. This one is super old. Trying to correct some flaws and to unstore some old things (let's say that I can spend the next years in the task!!!). + I hope you are doing well.

I know the feeling.  I look at some old stuff and cringe....  But others  cringe and then say "I can fix this!"  I am all right...you?

I am tired and dream of another life - without work for example :)

Honestly I would edit about 90% of my gallery...And there are all the pieces in storage, too...The good point is that now I see things I didn't see then, which means I have improved my artistic vision. The skills are another question, though. For this work for example it was a rather fast reworking. But sometimes it simply doesn't work because a profile cannot be changed without the whole shape of the skull for example, or because I don't remember the brushes I used originally, etc. And for all the flaws, an old work is what my eyes are used to see and every change disturbs the balance I have kept in my head...Every modification, even small, changes the whole picture and since the expression is always what matters to me first, I tend to keep my technical mistakes in place, rather than alterate the expressions/works. Very frustrating.

Yeah, some things need to be completely redone...which is a pain.  I agree about the expression being most important, though.  I like the mood and emotions of your portrait the best...sometimes that comes ahead of technical skill.  : D

Rickman has a childsize nose compared to this one :D I do like Rickman but honestly.... have you seen him run in any of his movies? :ambulance: horrible, truly horrible. I don't think the director would have risked to show him this way, it would have turned a dramatic scene into something else...
My husband who hasn't read the HP books (and he doesn't understand all the hype anyway) told me after the HBP movie that Rickman made evident Snape was a "good guy", not an evil Death Eater murdering his own mentor.

Absolutely ! I do understand for Rickman - and I do regret for the 'he's the good guy anyway' thing. It had been too clear from the 4th movie - when they didn't truly show he's a Death Eater (Karkaroff says it in a sentence but no one notices anything about it, kind of: 'oh, really? fine', and when in OotP Rickman is already just there for the decorum, obeying to Dumbledore's orders. He's not really a double agent then, just the good guy who tries to look like the villain. *sighes*

Re: I'm a little bit fanatic about this question, I confess. Rickamn is an excellent actor and his interpretation as Snape is not out of character. We could not think he is Lucius or some other character, but Snape.

My main ' problems' with him are : 1/ Physically, Rickman is too far from the original book Snape. Especially as a Snape fanart maker, I try not to paint him and I'd rather paint Snape than Rickman. 2/ his interpretation of the character on the screen doesn't show all the aspects of this paradoxal character. Maybe it's not Rickman's fault, maybe he is restrained in his possibilities by the montage and the script. But as a result, Rickman-Snape looks only like a self-restrained mature man, always controlling his feelings and playing the sardonic teacher in all circonstances.

It's just a simplification of the character. It's effective, because he is charismatic and then Rickman is popular. But the character is NOT popular in the end of HBP book...I mean, many people thought he was despictable and evil. So, I don't blame Rickman, who does probably the best within the movie. But I'd rather draw someone else.

Well, most of the time, what I draw is so far from Rickman that my watchers don't recognize Snape. Snape is very difficult to capture ...The task is hard ! :p

Thank you !!!!! I'm glad you liked the pic.

Oh, I agree that in terms of age and size Rickman is wrong for the part. But he fits in with all the other overly old adults, and I will forgive a lot for that voice...

Anecdotally, there were non-book fans who were shocked and horrified by Snape's actions at the end of HBP (the movie). The restraint makes him appear a cold-blooded, calculating murderer rather than some other kind.

I hope you keep on trying, because I enjoy all your attempts (and in my opinion, your many wonderful successes) in capturing the elusive Severus Snape.

Yaip, maybe you're right and Rickman is probably a good choice. I'm always too demanding, when it comes to Snape. And for sure, the voice is certainly his best contribution aaargh :faint:

;)

Thank you, it's very encouraging !!!
