Little portrait by Vizen Little portrait by Vizen
Simple portrait. Nothing new, just some drawing.

Tried to struggle against my natural tendency to making him look stronger and taller than he probably is, considering that in the books he is described as thin and not specifically tall (several people are said taller than he is). In my head the cat-like/ spider-like / bat-like quality of Snape suggest he would not have a physically imposing body complexion : all his strength lies in his mind, sharp tongue, expressions, magic and billowing robes.

Belongs to JKR

I like that you play with the greens to give him that "plant that has been inside to long" complexion. I actually thought he was a tall guy, but you're right: in the book he's always looking above his nose (snort! Sexy! :3) to people, but that doesn't mean he's that tall. :)

Wow, This is exactly how I picture Snape in my head. I love Alan Rickman in the Role for the movies, but this is far more accurate to how Madam Rowling describes him.

The colours add to his dreary self. I also think that eyebrows are very important to the general appearance/expression and those are perfect. I could stare at your Snape forever!

Well I don't think you drawing him taller will be a problem unless you draw him with someone else who was specified to be the taller one :)
Awesome portrait! :D

Oh, he's precious! (and will probably bite my head off for this exclamation)
I know your pain- he's tall in my mind, nothing I can do about it. Not very tall, but -ish... then again, I'm 5'2'', so from my perspective you don't have to be a giant to impress me.

He has been tall in my mind for so long, it is just hard to change that. And when I draw him, I always draw thin and long limbs and necks, and with postures that a tall man would have. Each time I fail to draw my inner Snape, I feel frustrated with the performance, true. And then I notice all the time that "ouch, he is too tall again!". Grrrr. I think it is something a fangirl very frequently sees in her mind : he would be taller, most impressive, just powerful ...When JKR probably wanted him to be -not small but- not that tall and physically imposing...

I don't really mind a tall Snape if he isn't strikingly so (likewise a shorter incarnation) - it's just that ... whole ... 'tall, dark, mysterious' thing. So wrong to this man to think that would matter! As Bea says, he doesn't need to be tall, dashing Prince Charming.

(I have a little private fantasy that when they were coasting Muggle studies for the equivalent of extra GPA points, Lily and Snape would have gone to the Muggle Fairy Tale fancy-dress tea party as Cinderella and Charming's younger, bitter brother, Prince Disgusting.)

Jo and we people will always have our differences in that respect, I suppose. ^^
Also, he does a lot of towering over people and such, mostly children of course, but theirs are the eyes we first saw him through, weren't they. He just came across as tall. I don't know. That man is a scientific discipline.

Anyway, if in the films they can represent him as an overweight man of sixty, I suppose making him a little taller than he's supposed to be can't be that much of a sin, can it? ^^

He doesn't though... somehow we all have this idea in our heads, but even little Harry (who is really quite small as a firstie, even if he gets taller later) doesn't seem to think so! It's strange: something about his personality makes him tall and elongated in our minds.

Well... he does it metaphorically then. XD
Or it's magic. Somehow. Just as his never getting stuck with his cloak in slamming doors. Magic.

(sixty-five). Good points: he is tall to the Firsties and we love being his Firsties . Anyway, you know, when I understood that Snape is not supposed to be so much taller than everyone, I felt even more endeared to the character. Think about it : it means he is naturally, physically not imposing...And he became the impressive Potions master. It's the same kind of thing with the Prince who would be handsome and charming naturally, so we love him for being handsome and charming, versus the man who is beautiful inside and we learn to love for what he is and not what he looks like. *in love*

Ah, thank you very much for that. His hair is a constant torment and only recently I've been drawing it better with enough grease on it. It's really hard to draw, honest. Some parts of him are always easy but some others are endlessly difficult!

I know! His hair gives me trouble as well, which makes me admire yours (well, his) all the more. There are various parts of him that drive me to despair. Funnily enough, his nose isn't one of them.
