Severus Snape and J.K. Rowling's WordsHas the world of fantasy ever produced a character more provocatively mysterious – more dramatic in appearance – more morally ambiguous – more downright compulsive – than Severus Snape? Well, maybe, but it's easy to forget every other character when you're basking in the full glare of his sarcastic sense of humour, his dark, dramatic appearance, and his hard-line approach to classroom discipline.
That's how we came to launch the #Spinners--End group. We'd had so much fun reading about this complex, contradictory character that we wanted to share all the images that J.K. Rowling’s well-chosen words had created in our minds. We wanted to help fill in all the blanks she’d left about his background and his motivation. And we knew from experience – because we were die-hard lovers of fan-art and fan-fiction already – that these arts (and, yes, we do think of them as "arts") could create a lively dialogue with the universe of J.K. Rowling

Tragic ConsolationsAnd why Severus Snape's death-scene lacks all of them.

For a lot of the people who read The Deathly Hallows, Snape's death was the least of their worries.

At the time, we didn't even know he was on the side of good. As we open up The Prince's Tale, we're still reeling from the deaths of Lupin, Tonks and Fred Weasley. And then, by the end of the chapter, we find out that the hero of all seven books has to sacrifice his life in order to ensure Voldemort's downfall. Does that leave room for Severus Snape?

Somehow, yes.

DumbledoreDumbledore sat in his office, many things going through his mind, but if you will bear in mind that many things to Dumbledore is completely unfathomable to us mere mortals, we are unable to even imagine the sheer events going on within the deepest chasms of his bottomless, vast and all-knowing mind, generating order from chaos and solving many puzzles and problems resulting, as many people may know, in Dumbledore speaking in riddles.

In a small thicket of trees, a sunlit river was glittering through the tree trunks. The shadows cast by the trees made a basin of cool green shade. Two children sat facing each other, cross legged on the ground. Snape had removed his coat now; his odd smock looked less peculiar in the half-light.

But I still hadn't decided who my feelings were stronger for, and I was feeling more and more frustrated as the days went by.

One night, while I was reading over a charms book that Severus had gave me for my 13th birthday, I heard a voice call me from outside.

"Lily!" I froze. That voice belonged to Severus.

I ran to the window, and froze. Severus was standing on the lawn, slumped against a tree. His face was bruised and bloody. I gasped, and I ran outside. It was freezing cold.

Truly gorgeous selection - many, many of my oldest favorites, and many new ones I'm delighted to see! This gets me in such a mood to write and paint. Too bad it's 4AM and I need to sleep.

Good tribute, dear. Very beautiful indeed. - especially as I view this now, edging closer to Samhain and all the mystery and lore that epitomizes Snape.
